Berlin Heart Inc. Receives FDA Orphan Product Development Grant
Berlin Heart Inc. today
announced it has been awarded an Orphan Product Development Grant by the FDA,
to support the ongoing Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) study of the
EXCOR(R) Pediatric Ventricular Assist Device (VAD). Dr. Christopher Almond of
the Children's Hospital of Boston, and Bob Kroslowitz, Vice President of
Clinical Affairs for Berlin Heart Inc. will serve as Co-Principal
Investigators for the grant project "Safety and Efficacy of the Berlin Heart
EXCOR Pediatric VAD as a Bridge to Heart Transplantation."
High School Students Compete to Solve Case Study Problem in International Business
Two teams of students from Berlin Central High School will compete for a scholarship prize when they present their solutions to a theoretical international business problem presented in a case study. The focus of this year's challenge is Caterpillar, Inc., one of the leading US companies with a strong global brand. The presentations, which are open to the public, will take place on Monday, June 15 at 12:00 p.m. at Berlin Central High School in Cherry Plain, New York.

500th Patient Receives Berlin Heart EXCOR Pediatric Ventricular Assist Device
The 500th patient was supported with the
Berlin Heart EXCOR(R) Pediatric Ventricular Assist Device (also known as the
"Berlin Heart") since the first implantation of the device in 1990. The
patient, an 11-month-old girl, received the device at the Children's Memorial
Hospital in Chicago and has been successfully transplanted in the meantime.
